The Best Floor Plans For Your Multigenerational HouseholdSeptember 23, 2021

The team at Mungo Homes strives to design floor plans that are highly functional for homeowners today, and in the future. For some families, functional means an organized mudroom, spare bedroom turned office or playroom and pet-friendly features. But for others, a home can’t be considered functional without a proper space for their multigenerational family members. While we offer plenty of floor plans with first-floor or dual primary bedrooms, we’ve highlighted a few of our favorites below.
The Edgewood
Just under 2,000 square feet, The Edgewood is a one-story, craftsman-style home with a balanced combination of open-concept and private space. The base plan comes standard with two bathrooms, two bedrooms and flex space—but the flex space can be optioned into a home office or third bedroom. This split plan places the primary bedroom opposite of the other two bedrooms, which makes it a great option for multigenerational families.
The Hayward
The Hayward is a two-story home with a first-floor primary bedroom and an attached spa-like bathroom. Upstairs, you’ll find three bedrooms with a shared full bathroom—but personalization options allow you to add a primary suite upstairs, in addition to the one on the first floor. A downstairs primary suite is perfect for older or mobility-impaired family members, while the one upstairs puts parents alongside their kids. The Hayward plan also includes a home office option downstairs, further proving that homeowners don’t have to sacrifice bonus spaces for the right amount of bedrooms.
The Jensen
Another two-story option is The Jensen, boasting around 2,500 square feet of living space. This craftsman-style home has a huge primary suite on the first floor, along with expansive open-concept family, kitchen and dining areas. Options on the second floor allow for plenty of separation between the two additional bedrooms, with a large shared full bathroom.
The Starks
For a stately two-story home with up to six bedrooms, look no further than The Starks. The main floor includes a primary suite on one side of the house and a flex space near the door that can be optioned into a bedroom with an adjacent full bathroom, practical for a smaller primary bedroom on the first floor. The second bedroom comes standard with three bedrooms and one bathroom, but the alternate layout includes four bedrooms with walk-in closets and two shared bathrooms.
